Boys win state alpine skiing title
by Brandon Zimmerman, Jackson Hole, Wyo.
March 9, 2009
There wasn’t even a hint of drama.
That’s how dominant the Jackson Hole High School boys’ alpine skiing team was Saturday in capturing its second state championship in two years. The Broncs placed four skiers in the top six and outscored runner-up Natrona County 142-63 at Snow King Resort.
Jackson Hole’s Gordon Finnegan punctuated the win by capturing Saturday’s slalom championship. Teammate Kevin Lucey placed fourth, Austin Deane fifth and Alec Jackson sixth.
“I think we all pulled together at the right time,” Finnegan said.
The Broncs girls, meanwhile, saw their nine-year string of state championships come to an end. Pinedale edged the Broncs 125-116. Jackson got a first-place finish in both the giant slalom and slalom from Sarina Scott, but it wasn’t enough.
In the All-State points race, Jackson Hole’s Desiree Bridges was first and Scott was third.
In the boys’ All-State points race, Gordon Finnegan was second, Deane was third and Patrick Finnegan was fourth. Natrona County’s Sean Munoz was first.

High school football in small town America
These photos come from a week spent with the Jackson Hole High School football team leading up to their homecoming game. The goal of the project was to document the football team without actually shooting a football game and was a project that Mr. Zinn produced for a photography workshop in Jackson Hole.

About Jackson Hole H.S.
Jackson Hole High School is located at 1910 High School Rd., just south of the town of Jackson, with magnificent views of the Teton Mountains to the north and other surrounding mountain ranges, and some of the valley's last remaining ranch land to the south. The home of the Jackson Hole Broncos is a beautiful new building, designed by award-winning Carney Architects of Jackson Hole and containing a 488-seat auditorium with proscenium stage (home to many community events), spacious gym, and signature rotunda.
The student body of JHHS is about 640 students in grades nine through twelve who engage in a full range of core academic subjects as well as arts and vocational training.
The principal, long-time valley educator Gary Elliott, is retiring at the end of the 2008-2009 school year after more than 40 years of service.
